Darrell Bennett began his Trinity career in 1993, choosing Trinity for its high academic standards and the opportunity to play college football. Darrell was a 4 year starter and captain on the football team leading the Tigers to 4 straight SCAC championships and its first Division III playoff appearance in 1994. He received his B.S. in Engineering Science in 1997. Soon after graduating, Darrell moved back to Houston and worked as a mechanical engineer for Baker Hughes INTEQ for 3 years designing downhole tools for oil exploration and production.
In 2000, Darrell joined an internet start-up, Network International, that sells oil & gas equipment online. He was hired due to his extensive oil & gas background, however was quickly reacquainted with his first love - computers. Darrell was exposed to a plethora of technology and led a number of projects and initiatives, the greatest of which, Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”), would later be the cornerstone of his own business. In 3 years time, Darrell implemented the company’s CRM system reducing operating costs 30%, growing e-sales from $100,000 to $13 million, and sparking revenue growth that prompted a top 10 ranking as one of Houston’s fastest growing technology companies.
While Darrell loved his job at Network International, he felt that if he could produce these kinds of results for one company, he could do the same thing for multiple companies. Thus, he left Network International in 2003 to start his own company, CRMatic (www.CRMatic.com). CRMatic provides a full range of consulting services focused on the design, implementation, and enhancement of CRM applications. Like any small business, there were ups and downs and times of doubt, but Darrell persevered and the company has sustained constant revenue growth since inception. The once “one-man” operation now has several employees including fellow Trinity alumni Luca Schalk (1996) and John Herron (1999) and provides services across the country with offices in Houston, Dallas, and Oklahoma City.
Darrell believes that his Trinity experience truly prepared him for the challenges of entrepreneurialism, and due to his preparation, he has succeeded in the creation of a profitable, growing company in which numerous Trinity alumni are employed. For additional information about CRMatic or to speak with Darrell about his experiences, please contact him directly at 713.623.1711 or darrell@CRMatic.com.
